    I had to research extinct hedgehogs because this was so obscure. Apparently Proterix was speculated to have been legless in the World Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Creatures due to a high number of lumbar vertebrae.

    A large group of colonial animals was thought to have become extinct in the Carboniferous.

    In the 2010s, Jörg Maletz showed that the group still survives.
