    ZOOCREW.EU => press release!

    Zoo and Wildlife Conservation Project Launched 01 January 2008

    The Hague, NL -- 09 January 2008 -- zoocrew.eu cares for our precious wildlife in their natural habitat and aims to increase awareness for conservation worldwide through an informative and interactive website: zoocrew.eu • zoocrew.eu - Home

    The main goal of zoocrew.eu is to focus on the important role of zoos in the conservation process by promoting the conservation projects and breeding programmes that are funded and supported by various zoos. Zoo visitors are encouraged to actively take part in reviewing zoos, doing so will open their eyes to the need for conservation and their rating will contribute to the PAW Award system.

    PAW Awards are used to identify the best zoos and are generated from zoo reviews; they are largely based on the following criteria:

    • Variety and condition of animals
    • Quality of enclosures
    • Education and awareness
    • Public facilities

    zoocrew.eu aims to be in regular contact with zoos to keep up-to-date with their latest developments and to provide the zoos with feedback collected anonymously from the zoo reviews.

    zoocrew.eu promotes animal adoptions as a valuable way of contributing to the future of our wildlife. The simple act of adopting an animal can make a real difference to the survival chances of many endangered species. All members of the zoocrew.eu community that have made an animal adoption are listed on a special Adoptions Roll of Honour. By the end of 2008, zoocrew.eu aims to have at least 50 names listed on the Roll of Honour.

    Each month zoocrew.eu aims to give an introduction to various organisations across the globe that are involved in conservation work to help raise awareness and an understanding for the need to take action.

    Many wildlife conservation organisations rely on the support and donations of others in order to pursue their causes. Saving these endangered animals is not an easy task and the more people get involved the better the chance of success.

    The idea behind zoocrew.eu came from four photographer friends with a shared passion for wildlife: Neal and Helen McClimon, Heiko Carstens and Natalie Harrison. Regular zoo visits within the Benelux countries led them to realise the importance of promoting the projects that are funded and supported by the various zoos. Unquestionably, more needs to be done in this area in order to increase public support, and the discussion naturally led to the idea of officially reviewing zoos as a way of promoting these projects as well as providing a central resource for zoo, wildlife and conservation news.

    Consequently, zoocrew.eu was launched on 01 January 2008 and is led by Natalie and Heiko. An international membership is gradually growing and the website is showing a hive of activity, with forum posts and gallery uploads from the newly formed zoocrew.eu community.

    Help make a difference, join the zoocrew.eu community and help save our precious wildlife.
