Yes, they sell hard copies of these guidebooks in the zoo giftshop - although they are quite pricey at 15 euro each.
I will be in Barcelona for a few hours next week. I was wondering where to find the following species : - Blue-breasted kingfisher - Lesser grey shrike - Western plantain-eater - The mangabeys Thanks
- Blue-breasted kingfisher: kingfishers are at the bird house (Aviari) but I think that now they only have collared kingfishers. - Lesser grey shrike: They are between the bongos and mongooses. You'll see some aviaries there. - Western plantain-eater: In front of the dorcas gazelles (next to wallabies) - The mangabeys: At the primates area, between orangutans and gorillas
Was there today. Really enjoyed the zoo, for some reason I underestimated it which made the visit better than expected. Both kingfisher species are in the bird house (3 Blue-breasted are on exhibit; 1 white-collared on exhibit in the bird house + one in the aviary row with the shrikes and red-crested turacos). Young mangabeys of both species, a baby DeBrazza’s monkey and a baby spider monkey were on show.
Personally, I visited the Barca zoo twice already and everytime I loved the place and atmosphere! Some very nice and committed staff too (this despite the crap coming out of the Municipality)!!!
Female Scimitar-Horned Oryx born: The new calf was born to mother Luisa and father Rufaro March 25th New Male Drill Arrive: The 17 years male drill named Rourke arrived from Bristol Zoo March 31st. Osprey Chick born: The chick was born to a pair than hadn't bred in 14 years.
Is this a translation error, as ZTL does not indicate this species being kept at any point in the zoos history. It would be unlikely if zoonerds would have missed such a species for 14 years.
I think Jungle Man referred to the birth of a bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) in a conservation center in Aragón that collaborates with the Barcelona Zoo, but not within the zoo itself. Here is the article that was shared on the Barcelona Zoo's Facebook page. Nace un quebrantahuesos tras 13 años de fracasos reproductivos de los padres
I'm sorry Bristol have gone out of Drills after such a comparatively short time with them, but also glad the male has finally moved to another group now. Given this was after the lockdown started, I wonder how he was moved though, by road, sea/road or air?
Yes,that was what I meant to say. Also,in the same Center, the first Cubs of Iberian linxes of the year have been born.
"Oldest Chimpanzee in Europe dies on May 7th: La Vieja as the Barcelona Zoo Zookeepers called them was a female Chimpanzee born in the wild in Equatorial Guinea. She arrived at the zoo when she was 2 years old in 1965 and since then she has stayed at the zoo. At 60 years old, she peacefully died. RIP La Vieja 1963-2020
The last three dolphins at Barcelona Zoo have been transferred to Attica Zoo according to the zoos Facebook Zoo de Barcelona
I was under the impression Ospreys were very hard to maintain long term, and am slightly gobsmacked that they're being bred.
BTW: not at Barcelona Zoo but the breeding center in Aragon (which doubles down as a breeding center of Iberian lynx too). Barcelona Zoo does have a pair of bearded vultures, but these are as yet somewhat immature(s).
