Estimado Zoochatter Jose presented a review on this zoo not too long ago completely devoted to native Mexican species.

This feature in one of the national newspapers' alludes to the birth of 2.5 Mexican wolf cubs at Zoo de los Coyotes born between 21st and 23rd of April this year.

NOTE: The feature from early July 2017 also draws attention to the fact that - after years of pressure from wolf recovery program staff and environmental interest groups - the US Fish and Wildife Service is finally about to present its - yes you heard it correctly … - first Mexican wolf recovery master plan for Arizona and New Mexico US states.

Second article with more in depth information in Mexican:

The breeding pair are male Yoltic (local) x female Pearl (arrived ex Zoologico de Guadalajara in December 2016).

Gracias estimado Kifaru for posting recent news on mexican zoos. This litter of mexican wolves is the largest one to date in any mexican zoo.

¡La primera colonia de murciélagos en un zoológico mexicano!
Until recently only 1 zoo had exhibited native mexican bats, Zoomat in Chiapas. Some zoos, such as Africam safari Puebla, Leon and Chapultepec exhibit flying foxes. Los Coyotes zoo, which exbits wildlife native to central mexico has opened a bat cave with a colony of lesser long nosed bats, leptonyteris yerbabuenae, also known as tequila bats, due to their usefull role in pollinization of the tequila agave. This is the only colony of tequila bats in any zoo. the article above is on the work of mexican biologist R. Medellin in establishing this colony at los Coyotes zoo.I will post some photos soon.
