A black lion tamarin Leontopithecus chrysopygus was born at Zoologico de Pomerode. Link: https://jornaldepomerode.com.br/nov...3owRn7Mok90r2SYMNEkOQTSBH9Iuw6bkqAviF3eXdxgFA The breeding pair is 1.0 from Parque Ecológico de São Carlos and 0.1 from Fundação Parque Zoológico de São Paulo. The zoo has held the species since 2017 and their first born was in 2018. So, currently they hold 1.1+0.0.2.
In sequence, a second news item as part of their Year of the Jaguar at Zoologico Pomerode in Santa Catarina state. Link: https://jornaldepomerode.com.br/nov...acoes-de-conscientizacao-sobre-o-animal-70002 The species was first introduced at the zoo in 2005 with a 3-year old male arriving from CIGS Zoo in Manaus (AM). The next year, they received females (aged 1+) from the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (CRAS) in Mato Grosso do Sul. Both jaguars are now geriatric and receive old age animal care (and they comment somewhat on behavioural enrichment and vet/keeper care for them at the zoo). The jaguars are part of the national conservation program, a participatory project between national zoo organisation SCB, the national conservation agency Chico Mendes (ICMBIO) and the Ministry of the Environment (MMA). If I interpreted the context of the article fully correct as of September 2019 the zoo was elected by the Brasilian zoo organisation SCB to become species ambassador for the jaguar (or "onca-pintada" as in the local tongue, ... sounds so much better!).
