More specifically, the zoo received 2.2 Emperor Tamarins via Zoo Leipzig (Germany). They were exchanged for the White-nosed Coatis that recently moved to Germany. From their social media: "Thanks to Zoo Leipzig, Guatemala has the pleasure of having two pairs of Emperor Tamarin and as part of the exchange a family of coati born in the zoo, left to Germany as ambassadors of their kind in the country. Recently a group of coatis from Guatemala moved to the Leipzig Zoo and already have a big admirer: Our Ambassador, Ricarda Redeker, who was immediately excited to hear about her arrival in the German press. Along with the Guatemalan ambassador Jorge Lemcke they sponsored these naughty animals, where one of the females was called: Ricarda. Little Ricarda and her friends are a good example of German-Guatemalan friendship. Next year we will celebrate the 175th anniversary of this friendship."
Sadly, Kira (the female sea lion) died recently due to health complications. The zoo explained she was a hybrid individual, though it wasn't specifed of which two species she was a hybrid. Now, only Mitch (the male sea lion) resides at the zoo. Here's a link to the news:
