To begin the thread of 2023 news of Beauval, the direction has announced the opening of the new Mexican-themed hotel Les Rivages de Beauval the 1st April, and the opening of the future South American aviary the 8th April. Bonne année 2023 ! - Beauval Actus
And Mr Rodolphe Delord, the director of the Zooparc, has just been named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Promotion du premier janvier - Rodolphe Delord, directeur du ZooParc de Beauval, fait chevalier de la Légion d'honneur
I received an email with the exact same artwork, although mine also had flapping hummingbirds I wonder if all the species in this mexican themed poster will be featured in the new attraction Would the translated version be Knight of the Honor League/Legion? In any case, what would this mean? If just more income due to the title that'd be great news for possible new exports in the future I hope (with you know burocracy and stuff).
It's the highest order of merit possible in France, a bit like being knighted here in the UK. It doesn't entail any extra income, it's just an honour, but a substantial and important one nevertheless.
Refurbishing works are announced in the Gorilla pavilion during the first months of 2023. This building will be partly closed (I don't know what parts will be closed or open).
The walkthrough aviary for Flying Foxes and Aldabra Giant Tortoises is being refurbished in January. It will be closed for a few weeks.
All the ducks have been put in quarantine, probably due to prevention against avian influenza. It has probably happened recently, as I saw many ducks in the outdoor exhibits before Christmas.
The refurbishment of the Lion-tailed Macaques enclosure, in progress since last autumn, have just ended. These monkeys are back in their main enclosure.
According to Beauval's website, the future South American aviary will host 500 birds (including 19 new species...) and 5 mammal species. La Grande Volière Sud-Américaine
Yesterday I went to Beauval, for the first time in 2023. Some relevant news : the Ruppell's Vultures have been replaced by a single Andean Condor in the aviary near the Northern entrance ; many works in progress : the Chinese pagoda is being repainted (with the closure of the path towards the Steller Sea Eagles' aviary) ; new climbing gear is being installed on the Yellow-breasted Capuchins' island ; also works on the path between the Jaguars and the Sea Lion pool ; one of the two enclosures for Persian Leopards is occupied by a young male Puma (before his departure ?) ; all the Ducks and Geese were off-show (prevention measure against avian influenza) except the resident - and probably wild - Mallards ; nonetheless the Cranes, Storks, Peafowl... remained on sight ; no more Taiwan Beauty Snakes in the Vivarium ; "Juliette" the Giraffe statue has been displaced near the Elephants' cablecar station.
Births of the mid-winter in Beauval : 1 Nyala, 1 Giant Anteater, 1 Dromedary (already noticed earlier), 60 Ghost Mantises, 1 Rainbow Lorikeet, 1 Lesser Kudu. 1.2 Ring-tailed Lemurs have left Beauval to the Zoo de Maubeuge.
In the main vivarium, the Panther Chameleon Furcifer pardalis has been replaced by a Central Fijian Banded Iguana Brachylophus bulabula few days ago.
