I've seen Bobak, Alpine, and of course Groundhog on-exhibit in zoos, though only the latter is on-exhibit in the US afaik. Bronx has a Yellow-Bellied as an ambassador animal, but you'd have to get lucky with a bts experience to see it. Does anywhere in Canada exhibit Vancouver Marmot? ~Thylo
I just saw a couple of Alpine Marmots at Artis Royal Zoo today! I'd never come across the species before. I think that any Vancouver Island Marmots at Canadian zoos are behind the scenes.
Tierpark Goerlitz has mixed exhibit for Alpine marmots and ibexes. According to Zootierliste 56 zoos in Europe keep Alpine marmots (including 15 collections in Switzerland alone).
Other than Yellow-bellied marmots (which should be exhibited at Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary in Montana) and Woodchucks, are there any other marmots kept in US collections?
As far as I can determine as many as 8 of the 15 total species may be held in captivity currently. There may well be others I'm not aware of. Alpine Marmot: https://www.zootierliste.de/en/?klasse=1&ordnung=113&familie=11309&art=1100101 Steppe Marmot: https://www.zootierliste.de/en/?klasse=1&ordnung=113&familie=11309&art=1100102 Siberian Marmot: Only Novosibirsk Zoo on zootierliste as well as Beijing Zoo Woodchuck: https://www.zootierliste.de/en/?klasse=1&ordnung=113&familie=11309&art=1100139 and many locations in the United States. Vancouver Island Marmot: I know Toronto Zoo breeds them behind the scenes: Toronto Zoo | Toronto Zoo | Captive Breeding and Reintroduction Hopefully one day the zoo will display the species. Himalayan Marmot: possibly at Monster World in Thailand in 2018 Marmot species ID? - ZooChat Long-tailed Marmot: Tashkent Zoo in 2016 Marmota caudata aurea / Long-tailed marmot in Tashkent Zoo Yellow- bellied Marmot: Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary & BTS at Bronx Zoo as mentioned above by @drill & @ThylacineAlive
