Not sure if Zurich have the same plan, but in Leipzig there is a daily 'elephant bath' when elephants are bribed into the water with food (and as noted above, both exhibits are indoors anyway): http://www.zoochat.com/443/underwater-elephant-leipzig-02-09-11-a-239936/

Unfortunately all Black rhinos will leave Zurich next year. They are going to keep White rhinoceros in the future.

Really ? In that cruel building ? And yes, it make sense to change from ordinary black, to the high endangerd white rhinos.

Strange, how times can change-it 1980,the zoo has send his pair white rhinos to Augsburg to get more space for the blacks...

Ps:Any source for that information ?

The White rhinos will not replace the Black rhinos immediately. White rhinos will come to the zoo as part of a new savannah during the next years.

WANDA, born in Zurich in 1996 will move to Rotterdam soon.

ATTN ZOOMANIAC. Sorry to temporarily hijack this thread, but I cannot PM ZooManiac because his inbox is full. I am hoping he will see this thread.

Due to winter flight cancellations in USA, I am rebooked for a later flight and will land in Zurich shortly after our planned dinner meet Wednesday. Can we reschedule for Thursday night instead? Just meet me at hotel same time on Thursday. Thanks!

New species at Zürich : a group of Barbary zebramice moved in. They came from Basle and a German breeder.

Where are these being displayed? They would make a nice addition to the Oryx house perhaps.

@zooboy28: They are displayed in the ape house, in the former tree shrew exhibit.

If the present Rhino house will be rebuild into an australian house-what will happen to the Pygmy Hippos ? I guess, they will leave the zoo ?
