This isn't a new species for the zoo is it?
    • Maguari
They've been there about 18 months or so, from memory. Lovely species.

Oh lovely thanks for that I thought I recognised them just had to double check.

@Maguari The zoo has held green jay (Cyanocorax yncas) for a number of years in the adjacent enclosure. Now they've moved in with the macaws, they've become Inca jay, (Cyanocorax yncas yncas), so I wonder if they're the same birds with new signs?
    • Maguari
@SMR They're almost certainly the same birds - I wasn't aware/had forgotten they'd switched aviaries! Have they really been there years? I was sure it wasn't further back than 2014.
    • SMR
@Maguari I've got photographs from 2010, so they've been there since then (at least), although they're not the same birds. I'm sure @bongorob can tell us when the species arrived.

See I recognise these birds from photos around the Tropical Realm, but only ever recently, looking back there are not many photos of them and I have gone through most pictures up until about 2010 or so Before the arrival of the painted dog's so SMR may be correct
    • Maguari
@SMR Yes, we need the Record Keeper - send up the Bongo-Signal.
    • SMR
@Charlie Simmomds To the best of my knowledge they've never been in the Tropical Realm.

The current birds arrived in 2014. In 1975 the species was bred in free flight in the Tropical House, one young was reared. In those days they were called Mexican green jays (Xanthoura yncas).

I can't remember the last time any jay species was kept in the Tropical realm although I'd put my money on the above mentioned jays in 1978.
