The Mundo Marino park has just rescued a juvenile Southern Elephant Seal that was found stranded on a beach. WAZA on Instagram: "@mundomarino.ar rescued a juvenile elephant seal! The elephant seal was found on the beaches of Costa Azul in the middle of its natural molting process, which was being interrupted by visitors on the beach. The resting period during which juvenile elephant seals shed their fur is vital for certain key physiological processes, such as increasing the blood's capacity to store oxygen. After being transferred to the Mundo Marino Foundation Rescue Center, the marine mammal underwent a thorough clinical examination and blood tests, which confirmed its good health. After two weeks of care, the young elephant seal was released back into the ocean."
Mundo Marino has just joined the EAZA. WAZA on Instagram: "WAZA is pleased to welcome @mundomarino.ar as a new Institution Member! Mundo Marino strives to protect wildlife through education and outreach actions for all ages and levels. Their multidisciplinary work teams ensure the promotion and development of the best conditions of animal welfare. Mundo Marino’s conservation strategy is based on the IUCN guidelines for in situ and ex situ conservation, with a focus on identifying the priority conservation problems affecting the local marine megafauna, their sustainability and the ecosystem in which they develop. Within this conservation strategy, Mundo Marino are carrying out a series of in situ and ex situ projects covering ecological, biological and sanitary aspects."
Might be you got confused? Maybe they joined WAZA instead of EAZA, which is meant for European zoo and aquariums
