    good news and bad news...

Do you have any recent news on the Gorillas at Lisbon Zoo, Portugal? I cannot find out if the male Nasibu(ex Kolmarden Sweden, born at Belfast) is potentially a breeder or not, and whether he mates their females.

I haven't news about him.I hope that he'll breed in future because he's genetically valuable:son of Keke(wild born) and Naomi(descendent of the original gorilla group at Bristol).
    P.s
I got this informations from Zoosdelmundo.

Yes, I do too. He is genetically very important on both sides of his parentage. His maternal grandparents were Samson & Delilah at Bristol Zoo and 'Nasibu' is their only joint descendant though Samson also has a daughter(Salome) by a different female(Lomie) living at Bristol.

Also Keke only has two offspring, neither of which have bred so far. Nasibu could possibly be the father of the baby Enzo born at Kolmarden though they seem to think the father was Efata(no DNA test has been done)

If he breeds at Lisbon my guess is it will be firstly with the female Anguka(born Apenheul, came from Taronga) as she is the youngest female there.

Wima was female (parents Kisoro x Joas, not original 'old' Basel stock) . She was sent with her four year old daughter Chelewa (Viatu x Wima) from Basel Zoo.

Can't help with the sex/date of the Madrid baby.

Great news for Duisburg and Kibabu at Taronga as he has once again become a grand father.

Looks as though 2011 is going to be the year of the gorilla at Apenheul, so far this year (and its only February) 0.1.1 gorilla have been born, with 3 other females currently pregnant and due this year.

    Belfast group changes.

    As reported in the UK Belfast news thread;

Male 'Kukuma' has died. 'Kukuma' came from Apenheul in 1993( he was born 1989) when the Belfast group was formed, and had lived in it ever since. He was castrated which made it possible for him to live alongside both females and the dominant male.

Female 'Kwanza', born 2002 at Vallee de Singes in France, has arrived to replace(non-breeding) female Bikira who was recently sent to Prague Zoo's group.

    Belfast currently have 1.3. Gorillas.

Why was Bikira sent to Prague if she is non-breeding?

She was non-breeding in terms of being in non-breeding situations. Mating in Prague.

As an experienced breeder herself, she may be successful with Mambi to breed. If this doesn't work maybe he is indeed infertile.

I know this might sound complicated and confusing but here I go. How do they determine the owners of each gorilla. For example, from the six surviving offspring of Kibabu that were born in Australia, three are listed as being owned by Apenheul and three by Taronga. The three owned by Apenheul are Mahale (2008), Fataki (2003) and M'beli (2003, now at Melbourne), and the three owned by Taronga are Fuzu (2007), Kimya (2005) and Kipenzi (2011). Now all of the Australian zoos that have gorillas are part of the EEP, so how do they work out owners all over Europe? This is just an example, I have noticed more in Europe itself.

    RE Ownerhip of offspring:
When an animal goes on a breeding loan to another zoo, there is always a loan contract signed how will the offspring be shared between the owners of both parents.
The most usual way to go is to share the offspring by 1/2 - the first surviving youngster goes to the owner, who sent its animal on loan. The second young to the "home" zoo, the third one to the owner of the loaned animal, the fourth to the "home" zoo and so on.
