The outdoor enclosure for male elephants. The trench at the bottom of the picture can be raised and so connect the female and male enclosures.

As I have pointed out in other threads or or gallery comments, this is the weak spot (to say the least!) of the new elephant exhibit at Copenhagen Zoo. I am sorry to say that what you see in this picture is actually the enclosure for TWO bulls, SEPARATED by another trench, just like the one upfront in the picture but one that you canīt see in this particular shot - it is placed just beside that big steel door in the middle picture.
The only comfort is that I have learned from a zoo keeper that the bulls will now and the be let out into the herd enclosure, see my posting: Just in case anyone is interested
