I'll be going next weekend for their birthday celebration. I was there a few weeks ago, the place is somewhat of a letdown but maybe a third viewing will change that.

Wait is Mike staying down there permanently or his here returning to John Ball for the summer like usual?
He is staying in Newport until March 2013. The exhibit is actually set to really open tomorrow so he just arrived.
The zoo is renovating it's Hidden Treasures of the Rainforest Islands exhibit and it will reopen on November 27th.
I was told today that Mighty Mike will temporarily retire as a travelling animal and will be at the Newport Aquarium for about 4 years.

Going further on Gulo's post: These White Alligators can be found in the Hidden Treasures exhibit that has been closed for almost two months.
There have been multiple changes spread throughout the aquarium, which means a new species list thread will be created. Here are some of those notable changes: -All of the empty Bizarre & Beautiful tanks have been filled and have been properly labelled. -Located in the Rainforest, the median between the first exhibit and the lorikeet aviary has been removed (along with the birds). A wall says that the area will be renovated once again so that it can exhibit 22 animals. The white alligators Snowflake and Snowball are now in separate enclosures. One has replaced the otters, and the other has replaced the dwarf crocodile. -The many medium sized crocodillians (Nile, West African, Morelet's) that were once in the tiny tanks have been replaced with either a new and smaller species, or juveniles.
Sweat Pea, the aquarium's first Shark Ray is pregnant, and it was confirmed that she is the first impregnated Shark Ray outside of the wild.
