Just wondering if anybody else has been to the Utica Zoo in New York? Went a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty nice. They had a Rocky Mountain Goat and some Wild Boar which you don't see too often. Went back again this week. They've lost some animals over the past couple of years(Grizzly Bear,Tigers,Sea Lion,Snow Leopard) and are in the process of a major facelift. Wild Boar and Wolf Hybrids are no longer there from my last trip but they are adding/have already added Yak,Ostrich,Lions,Aoudad,Serval,Hyena,African Porcupine,Dik-Dik,Ibex,Malayan Tapir,Emu,Rhea,Wildebeest, and a new companion for their female Sea Lion. The only thing I was diappointed to hear from talking to an employee was that their Mountain Goat was going to another zoo to be replaced by the incoming Ibex. The signs say June/July for all the new animal additions as some of the exhibits have to be completely built. Nice zoo though for the inexpensive price to get in.
I been to Utica zoo many times growing up in the 1990's. I have many photos I can post them if you want my too.
If you haven't been recently, I would stop by there again. Like I said, they are doing a great deal of work with new animals and new exhibits. Thanks for posting the pics. I was surprised to see that Utica did not have its own listing in the zoo list.
Haven't been their since the late 90's when I was a kid I need to get back their. Here is a news story about their new lion cub. The Utica zoo how does have it's own listing in the zoo list. From the zoo's facebook page Utica Zoo to Align Itself for AZA Re-accreditation The Utica Zoo will be closed on Wednesday, November 7 while we begin to relocate a portion of animals which are currently on loan. In preparation for AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) re-accreditation, the Utica Zoo will be replacing these animals in the Spring of 2013. The goal is to obtain animals that will benefit population management programs within the AZA. This is just one way we are working towards AZA re-accreditation with additional renovations and new exhibits planned for the coming year.
