Aarhus Botaniske Have - Pond in tropical house

Housing Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps catfish and tiger oscars (possibly more species as only the catfish were signed, and I didn't see the oscars until after some time). The pond used to contain a huge group of red-bellied piranhas, but these "had to" be removed a couple of years ago after a child put his fingers into the pond and got bitten.

As the visibility in the pool isn't too good, the drawcard to most people is obviously the giant waterlilies.

      ---

Aarhus Botaniske Have is the botanical gardens of Denmark's second-largest city, Aarhus. As botanical gardens, the main focus is obviously plants, and the outdoor areas and older greenhouses have no (captive) animals, but the new tropical house (from 2013) features a lot of free-flying butterflies (Heliconius cydno and Greta oto) as well as a fish pond.

      May 2019.
