Do they still have Baird's tapirs and have they bred since 2009 ?

They have about seven Baird's tapirs now (if I remember right), and they keep breeding ~

In terms of the shortage of females in North America, and the near dearth of this species in Europe, one does wonder why Beijing seems to be keeping so many.

Instead of asking yourselves that question, you would be well-placed to wonder why the species is not doing so well both in American and European zoos!

I do wonder if / why the Beijing Zoo is not part of a trans-global conservation breeding program. As I will give you that … it would be really nice f.i. to have 2 more females in European collections, so Wuppertal and Cottbus might be able to consider breeding the species.
