      When the exhibit debuted, it was open air (and really nice). Unfortunately wild predators eventually ate all the prairie dogs. For their protection the exhibit was modified with glass panels in front and mesh over the tops and sides.

      Must have been fairly heavily predated then! How long did it take? Guessing mostly hawks since it appears open? (minus the new mesh)

      It took a while, as it was open-topped for several years. I am not sure what kind of predator (probably owls since it likely happened at night). A friend of mine who was a docent there told me the reason.
