      Alf and Tiquie, they are two of the only five Brazilian Tapir that remain in Australia.

      Alf was born at Adelaide Zoo in 1991 and later moved to Taronga Western Plains Zoo. After that, he moved to Alma Park Zoo in 2012 and lived in a mixed exhibit with three Greater Rhea [another species which virtually extinct in Australian zoos]. Alf was the first tapir I ever saw at Alma Park Zoo back in 2013. The zoo’s female, Tiquie was also born at Adelaide Zoo in the late 90s and later moved to Taronga Zoo in 2006. They both moved to Darling Downs Zoo as older animals in 2014.

      This pair have been at the zoo ever since and live with Patagonian Mara, and formerly Capybara. Glad to see they are both still going strong as they enter well into their 20s.
