Reduakari has summed up the 3 snow leopard exhibits at the Bronx Zoo, and they are indeed the best of their kind in North America. The photo on this thread is of an asian leopard, and I really feel as if the zoo should relocate the leopards and put something smaller (fishing cats?) in a revamped exhibit.

I have yet to see one. I don't think Bronx is too spectacular, I just don't. Breeding records and the views of others won't change that. Maybe it's a matter of 'compared to other exhibits...' that people thing it's a great one.

No, I really think it is a spectacular exhibit. It is a perfect exhibit for Snow Leopards. What is so "unspectacular" about it? Having that many cubs must indicate something good about the exhibit...

I don't see it as spacious and amazing? The two side exhibits for the leopards are about the size of average bobcat exhibit and the one main exhibit space is just a plot of land with grass and nooks. Sorry that doesn't do it for me.

And you claim to be an optimist....

At 3000 square feet each the two enclosures are larger than most, if not all snow leopard exhibits in the country. I don't know how you compare that to bobcat enclosures that are usually only a couple hundred square feet. Both authors of America's Best Zoos said Himalayan Highlands is unquestionably the best snow leopard exhibit in the nation. Snowleopard said the exhibits were "superb" when he summed up the Bronx Zoo, and reduakri ranks the exhibits in his top 25 exhibits. You are the only person I have met who views them as puny bob-cat enclosures.

As reduakri mentioned above, they are one of the most successful exhibits created. Not to mention the harp-wire offers some of the best views for visitors.

I'm sorry, I don't bring a tapemeasure with me to the zoo. I'm sorry I don't care what the authors of a book have managed to say. I also don't care what snowleopard says (no offense) or where reduakri rates an exhibit. I don't think there's a need to debase my opinion--when it's just that--solely because you disagree. I don't think it's amazing--sorry. I was unaware different viewpoints automatically made them wrong.

Well its kind of helpful to know the size of an enclosure if you are going to make a point about it. I wasn't saying you were wrong, more like give you a better perspective toward the exhibit.

I don't find it helpful, personally. What would you like me to say, that it's great compared to other US exhibits that the animals have more space at Bronx? I know the exhibit well, I've probably seen it over 100 times. I just don't have the same awestruck-love for it that others do. Bringing in expert sources to change my mind isn't going to work to change that.

I don't think the exhibit is that great. I'm sure there are plenty of exhibits across the country I adore that you don't.

      I am sure your right.

      Various comments.

This leopard exhibit, while nicely planted is too small imo. I also highly doubt it's bigger than the outdoor exhibits for similar cats at Omaha.

The snow leopard exhibit is great in comparison to other snow leopard exhibits. That a rather low bar though, I'm not sure this is a great exhibit when taking that factor out. It is very good though.

Other than this exhibit, JungleWorld is very nice, however doesn't provide near the feel of immersion that Lied Jungle does.
