      I looked burbot up, but nothing came regarding extinction. Do you mean extirpated?

      No I think he means it is believed the species is extinct in Britain. Not that the species as a whole is extinct.

      @Andrew_NZP Yes, exactly so. Fishbase states that this species has a very wide range around the northern hemisphere, but adds that some experts believe that there are two species: Lota lota from Europe and western Siberia and Lota maculosa from eastern SIberia and North America.
      The species is interesting because it is the only member of the codfish family found in freshwater.
