Well done. I was in Frankfurt Zoo two days last week and inspected this moat several times on each day; I never managed to see the turtle.

I take it this is outdoors? If so what do they do in the winter?

It is outdoors - being from China though the turtle may be able to hibernate in the lake the way that Red-eared Sliders regularly do in Britain and Europe.

the thing I was wondering is whether the zoo put it in the moat themselves or if it just turned up unannounced (via a zoo visitor and his unwanted pet); and 2) if there is only one or several
