Flamingos and company...

One of the first exhibit visitors encounter on the main zoo path is the flamingo pool. The birds, however, appeared to share their enclosure with a few native species. The unidentified critter in the lower lefthand corner of the photo continued to pop his head out of a hole, watching us watch him; we never saw more than a black head. Weasel, maybe? Meanwhile, not in the photo, a family of unidentified light brown mammals would dive into the pond from the back mudbank, make a quick lap, scurry back into the holes on the shoreline, then repeat the process. Otters, perhaps? Whatever they were, they did appear to make the flamboyance of birds a bit skittish...
