Frankfurt Zoo - Bear grotto

One of the bear grottos in Frankfurt Zoo. This is the one for sloth bears. There are plans to rebuild these exhibits to a new one with spectacled bears and coatis. Not a very pretty sight!

One of my pet peeves, as grottoes are still housing hundreds of bears in zoos worldwide. In North America there are many simply awful bear grottoes, but somewhat ironically at the same time many of the greatest exhibits around feature bears (Detroit, Seattle, Washington D.C., Minnesota, etc).
