that's a beaded lizard (close relative of the Gila monster)

Can you confirm something for me. I thought the colouring of Gila monsters was pink and black whilst the Beaded lizard was a sort of yellow and black. The colours in the photo may not be good but this one was definitely pink.

well maybe it is a Gila monster (I'm quite happy for people to tell me I'm wrong when that happens), but it looks very much like a beaded lizard to me. In the other photo the tail looks pretty long for a Gila monster, and the pattern seems more beaded than Gila.

Glasgow Zoo had both beaded lizards and Gila monsters, for what it's worth

I'm thinking Beaded Lizard - if its a Gila, it looks a bit weird.
    • Goura
Well that explains it - it was quite some time ago.

Definitely Heloderma horridum, body shape and color pattern are consistent with beaded lizard, not Gila monster.
