New Caledonian parakeet (Cyanoramphus saissetti)

formerly included in Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae (the New Zealand red-crowned kakariki) but now split as an endemic species. DNA evidence suggests that Cyanoramphus evolved in New Caledonia and spread out from there, rather than evolving in NZ as had seemed most likely. As with most of the genus they are vulnerable to introduced predators and are becoming rarer in the wild.
