Thanks for posting the pictures of the Abidjan Zoo, Animalchap. Can you tell us more about this zoo and its collection? What species are the highlights besides forest elephant and pygmy hippos? Is the zoo a popular institution in terms of getting substantial visitation and support from Ivorians?
Hi well its struggled becuase of the civil war last year, and many animals died. i am spending two years there from january to rehabilitate it and sort the animals out and develop the zoo - on very low budget , but loads of natural resources available. it has good support and lots of visitors, but they see the animals in poor conditions at the moment. they have the largest population of slender snout crocodilesn the world - and a conservation project attached to them, duiker (3 species), lots of civet, genets, many primates, including white nosed and mangebeys, monitors, forest buffalo, bushbuck, 16 chimpanzees (pure west african), hyena and leopard. ther eis alot of work to do , but it could be potentially a great zoo, with one of the best elephant enclosures in the future
