Rather plump female! New calf on the way?

      How many at Whipsnade now?
    • Tim May
One male and two females; the male being off-exhibit.
    • ajmcwhipsnade
There are just the two of them. I was so pleased to be able to get both in one picture!
    • ajmcwhipsnade
Ah right, of course. Is the male in one of the paddocks within the passage thru asia? Just off to the right as you enter?
    • Tim May
I have seen the male onager there before (i.e. behind the nilgai paddock) but, on my visit last weekend, I caught a glimpse of him behind the impala and kudu enclosure.

Very nice photo by the way.

Ah ok, I will have a look next time I go.

      Cheers as well!

They both look gravid/heavily in foal to me.

I suspect the male is kept seperate as wild ass males can often be quite aggressive with their females.

Quite a while ago now the Onager and Przewalski's horse swapped paddocks, any idea as to why they did swap around?
