Is this new? I think it's so dangerous keeping animals like chimps enclosed using hotwire as the only deterrent.
@SilverbackApes: did the exhibit finally open to the public this week? Do you know the exact size of the outdoor area?
Not sure of the size of the enclosure, its now open to the public. As far as I'm aware the fencing isn't entirely finished yet, so there may be greater deterrents put in place. The chimps won't be going out in it at least until the other two males from Wellington settle in.

I saw Gombe and Boyd last Saturday, they seemed a lot more keen on walking on the bark covered floor than Tsotsi and Sandali have been.
