      Explains why I only saw two then, I missed the male. I believe they imported 2-3 additional females a year or so ago. Did some of those go on to Chester- leaving Whipsnade just one additional female?

      The male seemed to be enjoying chasing the 5 nilgai down their paddock late yesterday (on the other side of the fence).

      I think one mare was PTS over Xmas due to a foot injury incurred by the male.

      The onager certainly aren't the most peace-loving of Whipsnade's animals. I've certainly seen them actively chase down, and in some instances kill, any of the free-roaming animals that enter their paddock!

      Wild Asses are quite vicious really... the stallions can get aggressive with their own females too. I doubt you could mix anything smaller than a Camel with them.
