      These are not Marsican brown bears, but they have been rescued from Eastern Europe. Obviously the educational message highlight the status of Marsican brown bear, whose population not exceed 40 individuals. Incidentally, the only 3 Marsican brown bears held in captivity are found in the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo.

      I have checked my photos of the signage.

      My Italian is not great and the signage is not clear but these are ex-circus animals rescued from poor conditions in a Romanian zoo (a la Five Sisters in Scotland) and are therefore not Marsican (despite the close proximity of Pistoia to the wild Marsican population).
