      African Plains: Part of Slender-Horned Gazelle signage. September 21, 2017. Whenever I hear about captive breeding programs descended from a handful of animals like this, it always makes me more upset when I hear zoos say they're phasing out species due to lack of available blood when those species have larger founding populations. Of course every species is different but it does seem like a poor excuse, especially for hoofstock.
