Thank you for including a shot of this animal, I have never seen one! Do you know if they were once more commonly displayed? ISIS does not list them as this common name, do they have a different name?
ISIS calls it a white-naped weasel and shows three individuals in the US, this one at Hogle, one at Omaha, and one at Philadelphia.
This is the only one I've ever seen anywhere.
Thanks! Perhaps the other two zoos do not have them on display or as ambassadors? I do not remember seeing them at the other two zoos, which I have both visited in the past year...although it would certainly be easy to miss some small mammals in Henry Doorly's extensive exhibits.
Thanks for the picture. I love pictures of rarely photographed animals!
According to this link, Striped Polecat | African Animals | Weasel | Wildlife Safari.info. , these animals emit noxious chemicals from their anal glands. Seems like convergent evolution with skunks.
this one could possibly be now at the Cincinnati zoo if this zoo doesnt have it anymore
ISIS still lists one for each of the zoos mentioned above. I was lucky enough to see the one at Omaha in October, which i now off exhibit.
soooo this isnt at this zoo? the weasel just came to the cincy zoo last week
ISIS aslways could be wrong. However, in the US, they list one for Hogle, one for Omaha, and one for Philadelphia. There is nothing about Cincinnati, though ISIS might be outdated as it often is.
it hasnt been updated since june 21
i just want to know if this weasel isnt at the Hogle Zoo anymore
