Tecton Bear Ravine Viewing Platform & Bear House - Dudley Zoo 2006

Now disused and looking very aged (but is Grade 1 listed). The zoo is currently planning a major redevelopment programme which will incorporate these old 1930s buildings.

This area does in fact house animals and has done for a few years now, it has guanaco's, and just recently 2 goats from pets corner that kept jumping from their pen and eating all the zoo's plants.

Compared to the bear pits, this place looks alright (if barren and neglected). Though tigers sound nice, couldn't they put up some climbing frames, a bigger fence and stick the orangs in here

I could not agree with you more. If we cannot see where we have come from. We have no idea how far we have come.

In saying that this exhibit is certainly not as bad as some.

The hill close to the viewing area looks very close. A tiger jump??

Orangs could be good although i would prefer the idea of tigers and yes it does look rather close to the hill side!

For those who don't know the zoo this enclosure is a big area and would take a lot of tiger proofing! It does back right onto the hill which is unused land.
In fact the zoo has lots of unused land which is hilly, but this need not be a reason not to do anything with it, just look at Prague Zoo to see what can be done with a hilly location, in my humble view one of the best zoo's in Europe, although sadly for Dudley they will never get the financial support from the local council that Prague does.

It would look magnificant with tigers though fence it up like the new Lion enclosure which goes into the Tecton Bird house aswell which is towards the left onto the hill providing a new Big Cat valley.
