    • Chlidonias
      it might be the Black-faced Bunting Emberiza spodocephala. The ones in Japan and Korea seem to be less streaky on the breast than elsewhere. But I'm not sure what else might be similar.

      @Chlidonias The photo on the signage for black-faced bunting is for a bird with a lot more streakiness. Could be why I was confused

      Japan has two subspecies. The migrant one looks very dissimilar to the bird in your photo but might be the one on the signage. The near-endemic subspecies has a lot more yellow and less streaking.

      It is either a black-faced bunting or an oriental greenfinch.
