ZOO Antwerpen - Spectacled bear exhibit

Part of the exhibit for spectacled bears (Tremarctos ornatus) and brown-nosed coatis (Nasua nasua) in ZOO Antwerpen. This picture shows about half of this very nice exhibit which opened in 2006. This exhibit was originally divided into two bear grottos for polar bears and Kamchatka brown bears until both species left the zoo in 2005 when the exhibit was renovated. The Carnivore exhibits were originally built for big cats and bears as part of the Jubilee Complex which opened in 1968 to celebrate the zoo’s 125th anniversary (also including the Nocturama, Aquaforum and Bird of Prey Aviaries). The bears and lions have already received new exhibits and the tigers and leopards are next in line. ZOO Antwerpen, July 2011.
