"A young Southeast Asian water monitor (Varanus salvator macromaculatus) is displayed to the public at the Tropicario Zoo in Helsinki. What is special is that the mother, a female monitor, lived without a male for ten years.

The same female gave birth to a baby through virgin birth already in 2017, but it only survived a few weeks, according to Hufvudstadsbladet.
However, this baby monitor is more alert and has a good appetite, and grows well, the zoo announces."

I could not find any English articles about this, but all Swedish magazines are going crazy about this, so I translated one from Swedish to English. Pretty interesting, especially as the subspecies are rare in European zoos (Only kept at Tropicario and Cologne Zoological Garden). One more individual is always great!
