In 1938 a zoo was built in the center of Changchun / Jilin Perfecture. During the Japanese occupation all tigers and lions were killed in 1944 for fear of air raids.

1945 the park is devastated and there are almost no animals left. After the liberation of the city, cattle and pigs were initially kept here.

In 1965 a botanical garden was created on the site.

From 1973-1982 more than 500 deer are kept in one part of the park.

1974 the 70 ha park is renamed Changchun Zoo & Botanical Garden.

Sept. 15, 1987 the park is reopened after extensive renovation. At the same time 1,0 Asian Elephant "Gan Mai" arrives in the park - the bull lives until Nov. 17, 2008)

April 15, 2010 4 giraffes arrive at the zoo

2010 the Polar Museum is open with facilities for polar bears and penguins

2011 Beast Valley has been completed - a a large area with facilities for Tiger, Lions, Wolves and Bears

The previous internet address - www.cczoo.net - is probably no longer active
