Czech parrot breeder, Marcel Kohout, now went public with his proposal of building a zoo in the village of Janov near the city of Litomyšl in the next 3-5 years. The zoo is supposed to be "Bali-themed" but with a fair share of animals from other continents as well. The main star in terms of exhibits should be two tropical halls.

He already started the bureaucratic process of getting all the necessary permits, but there is still the question if he gets public support as some of the villagers are calling for a referendum on if he should be allowed to go through with this plan. He did manage to get a kind of significant support from Vladislav Jiroušek - former director of Zoo Jihlava and one of the "legendary" persons in the Czech zoo community.

We will see if something comes from it or not.

This family owns the largest lory parrot farm in the country, employing full-time keeper already. Obtaining zoo licence and selling tickets seems obvious development.

So, the village Janov will vote in a referendum, most probably in September, on question if he will get permission for a zoo or not.

The article mentions he now keeps 36 lory species on his Czech farm (he also own a bird farm at Bali).
Nejvíc loriů žije v Janově. Uvidíte je tam v zoo?

I have fotgotten to post an answer that this thread started with.

No, we wont have a new zoo. Local referendum organised by village council refused a creation of a zoo within the village area. Slight majority of local residents were afraid of increased traffic and tourism that an attraction would bring into their sleepy place and voted against.
