Concern has been expressed about the unusually high number of plains zebra, living near Lake Mburo in Uganda, that have aberrant stripe patterns. See link below for details. Spotted and oddly striped zebras may be a warning for species’ future
I found the 2011 photo from Etosha interesting- I saw an identical zebra- a well known individual at that time - when I visited there in the early 1980's, so the gene for that variation has been present some time I think.
“But in some cases, these African equines sport unusual color patterns, such as large, black splotches or golden coats with light-coloured stripes.” Sounds like a chronic case of Quaggarism.
I believe one of the Eastern European zoos had/has Zebras that have golden/brown stripes?. @Kifaru Bwana
You meant Borana or maneless zebra. These have been recognised as a distinct subspecies of plains zebra.
