I more or less thought that the enclosure was more than finished in Rotterdam?!! :) It was more a question of getting the known mate-killer male out of Rotterdam than anything else. This would / will enable Blijdorp - Rotterdam to invest in an effective breeding pair for their nice set up of an Amur leopard carrousel.

I heard that Leipzig Zoo is going to receive a new amur leopard female to breed with XEMBALO next year at the new enclosure. Any idea which female could be the new one for Leipzig?

Right, I would like to see that carrousel spinning :)
To my knowledge all previous Amurs there have been nonbreeding.
I mean Cleopatra, Bogan and Albus. Any idea if there is a new female for Cema?

AdvoCat, sorry for the delay in answering. I have only now been able to find out the answer you were after. At the moment, they hold 2.0, of which one new male was imported some time late last year. A new female is yet to arrive.

As to your observations: it is not correct they have been non-breeding, they for all good purposes tried very hard to breed Bogan and others! Sadly, particularly with one male - who proved to be a mate killer … - there was no luck in getting the animals to breed. Various issues in incompatibility have led the zoo to acquire a new male and the other has been designated now as "unsuitable for breeding" (note: not "surplus to breeding requirements).

    Two males and one female.
The melanistic one is a male.

    Yorkshire moves are finally underway:

Whilst the Meerkats were moving house just across the Park, another park resident made a move much further afield.
Dimitri, one of the three Amur leopard brothers who has been living in Leopard Heights left to fulfil his role as part of the European breeding programme.

With only approximately 45 wild Amur leopards left in their native Russian Far East, the breeding programme is critical to breed these magnificent big cats for a planned reintroduction project in their homeland.
All three of YWP’s young male leopards will have their part to play in the programme. The leopard moves are decided by the Amur Leopard Studbook Coordinator to ensure the best genetic matches for these critically endangered animals.

"At 4 years old our leopard brothers are in their prime and ready to be paired up with a suitable females. Dimitri is the first to go and has left us to set up home in France at Zoo des Sables d’olonne," added Ms Williams.

“Denzil is also due to leave this summer for Norden’s Ark Zoo in Sweden. We are now finalising the details to bring in our first female Amur Leopard, Freya, from Tallin Zoo in Estonia who will pair up with the remaining brother, Drake and we hope that they will breed in the future. It is very exciting to be part of such a ground breaking project.

Denzil from YWP arrived on 11th of May to Nordens Ark and Kitan from Nordens Ark left for Bellewaerde. I presume that Freya from Tallinn will soon be traveling to YWP.
