No, dragon; there are no asiatic lions in the region any more.

Hi Pat to answer your question from 10 and a half years ago lol the photo of the Lions labelled as 'Asian' at Perth Zoo in '87 is a mistake, they definitely were African Lions. The Lions in that photo were the parents of male Lion Alistair born in 86 and died in 07 who was definitely an African Lion and signs i remember from the early 90s already indicated this so they weren't trying to pass African or hybrids as Asian Lion either.

Would Australasia ever consider bringing an Asian Lion breeding program back to the region. I would suggest Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Taronga, Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and even Mogo (good history of endangered breeding programs for a small private zoo).

The African Lions (are these current African Lions a mix of southern African subspecies??) could be accommodated for in National,Darling Downs, Hunter,
Qld, Australia Zoo and the opens ranges like WP, Monarto, Werribee and Orana.
