Hi everyone, I'm doing a presentation at uni and I'm having trouble finding a scientific journal or text book reference on the genetics of captive Asiatic lions. I know they are quite inbred due to the low number of founder animals but I only know this from word of mouth and reading it in threads on here. Can anyone help? Thanks, Matt
Though very old, and probably not of much use to you, I found "Evidence for African origins of founders of the asiatic lion species survival plan" by O'Brien et al. (1986) very interesting to read.
It is indeed old and not reflective of the current Asiatics population in European zoos. It may just give you some historical insight only into its development.
