The grizzly and wolf discovery center is planning to get black bears. They currently have 7 grizzlies but will be adding black bears in the near future.

    Thanks for your help!

Other question is I need some footage of either brown bear, sun bear (other than chester) and/or moon bear cubs. Are there any in Europe at the moment under a year or so old

I've seen all 8 of the regulars (black and grizzly in the wild as well)
would like to see a few of the unusual subspecies: Syrian, Desert brown bear,
    spirit bear
    also would love to see
    Nandi Bear
that short faced bear on Kootznoowoo Island
and that polar bear offshoot that masquerades as the abominable snowman
    :)

A few different zoos for me as I live in NZ

    American black: Auckland and wild

Asian black: Wellington a long time ago

Brown: Alaska wildlife park, Taronga, Melbourne, San Diego and wild

    Polar: Auckland, San Diego, wild

Sun: Auckland, Now closed zoo in Brisbane, Wellington, Taronga and San Diego

    Andean: San Diego

Panda: San Diego, Travelling loan animals at Auckland

    Sloth: London, Zoo Boise

So amazing enough despite being stuck in the wrong part of the world for zoos and having only visted 4 zoos outside Australasia I have seen the lot.

I think he's referring to a show from Animal Planet which claimed that on Admiralty Island the bears are hybrids of Brown Bears and Short-faced Bears. It's one of those shows which that channel puts out in the vein of mermaids or Megalodon or whatever are real and/or still alive.

Possibly he was including it in jest, as he also references the Nandi Bear and the ridiculous "Polar Bear X Brown Bear hybrid is the Yeti".

I've been thinking about this topic and I think I'm missing two species, giant panda and sun bear. I used to think I'd seen a panda at London, but my first visit (that I remember) they had koala in the Round House and everything I've learnt since tells me that pandas and koalas were never at London at the same time. And sun bear, I really don't remember seeing one, ever.:eek:

No doubt someone will have exact dates for this but according to ztl pandas and were exhibited at London Zoo from 1991 - 94, koala were kept 1989 - 91. Whether they overlapped or not I don't know.

As well as seeing several Brown varieties, American black, Sun, Moon, Polar, Andean, Panda and Sloth, I've managed to see all but the last at around 14 months and younger.

The giant pandas and koalas did overlap at London Zoo.

Despite the dates given by ZTL, checking the ZSL Annual Report for 1992, there was still a koala in the collection at the start of that year; it was sent to Lisbon Zoo during 1992 and, according to the annual report, a pair of binturong replaced it in the Round House.
