I may mean the UK... *I can confirm, I did mean the UK, my bad* I would guess that it's still probably one of the largest in Europe??
Cologne, Zurich, Pairi’s offshow barn....lots of European zoos have bigger. Think he might mean the UK. *just seen TNT’s post confirming he did mean the UK*
I do have to say though, a quick peruse on Google Maps has promptly shown that Blackpool has, in fact, the third largest elephant house in the UK. Admittedly Chester’s house isn’t solely for elephants, but the new Whipsnade barn plus the old barn (which is used as night quarters for the elephants) is heaps bigger...
I’d look up Blackpool Zoo on this website... Area Calculator - Outline a property on a google map and find its area Blackpool’s is only a fraction smaller than Whipsnade’s whole matriarchal herd complex in fairness, but Chester’s is also bigger
Blame whatever google maps I'm using, you cant see it there This is the quote I was remembering from the website "The indoor area is now the largest in the UK, with state of the art equipment and facilities, while the outdoor area comprises of sanded areas, a bathing pool and a landscaped grass paddock". Project Elephant Base Camp
It’s possible they’re not including the offshow elephant barns at Whipsnade and are only counting the elephant areas in the Chester house, but certainly in square metres both buildings are larger than Blackpool’s wonder if the building was supposed to be bigger
Screenshots from Google Maps... Chester Blackpool Whipsnade IMO Whipsnade win because they have their own jumbo jet (N.B. I have zoomed in by the same amount on each image but can't be sure they were all originally photographed to the same scale, although they do look about right)
Your all saying how big Blackpool Zoo's Elephant Enclosure is. However if Noah's Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall, near Bristol, was to swap their African Elephants to Asians Blackpool would have a silent demoter on their case. I'm mentioning the African Elephant enclosure because the original plan was for Noah's Ark Zoo Farm to aquere a multi generational heard of breeding Asian Elephants.
