This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Colobuses in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to perhaps list the enclosures in order of what they determine to be the best. If anybody has photos/a description of those I'm missing please share them. As usual if you vote for the other option please state which collection you're voting for. Howletts (Kikuyu) London (Kikuyu) Port Lympne (Kikuyu) Wingham (Kikuyu) Unfortunately, there are no photos of this enclosure in the gallery. It would be extremely useful if someone who has visited can describe the exhibit and give an evaluation on its quality. Belfast (Kikuyu) Blackpool (King) Africa Alive (King) Paignton (King) Unfortunately, there are no photos of this enclosure in the gallery. It would be extremely useful if someone who has visited can describe the exhibit and give an evaluation on its quality. Longleat (Mantled) Drusillas (Western) Unfortunately, there are no photos of this enclosure in the gallery. It would be extremely useful if someone who has visited can describe the exhibit and give an evaluation on its quality. Cotswold (Western) Twycross (Western) Unfortunately, there are no photos of this enclosure in the gallery. It would be extremely useful if someone who has visited can describe the exhibit and give an evaluation on its quality.
Definitely Howletts ! large enclosure with high climbing areas. Longleat was close but the limited climbing just doesn't make it. Twycross and Blackpool both need major upgrades
This has to be between Port Lympne and Howletts, though Paignton is ok. London, Africa Alive, Blackpool, Twycross, Drusillas don't deserve a vote
Paignton’s Kings are now off-show & it’s a bit of a sore topic as there is a huge on show exhibit lying empty in Monkey Heights. The King group is now healthy. The PZ exhibit is good but is slightly let down through not having access (electrified) to the planes trees in their outdoor runs.
That London enclosure hasn't been used for Colobus for at least 6 years, it currently holds Sulawesi Crested Macaque. This picture shows half their exhibit: Colobus Cage at ZSL London Zoo 2/11/2018 - ZooChat Of course, the plan is for them to move to the revamped Snowden Aviary at some point in the future.
Agreed, though if ZSL can reign in the tendency for over-dramatic theming the eventual end-product Snowdon could be something special.
Poll closed. Congratulations to Port Lympne on winning the vote for Best UK Colobus enclosure. This was a very one sided contest and is Port Lympne's second poll win. Port Lympne: 77.8% Howletts: 18.5% Longleat: 3.7%
I hope many zoos copy colobus electric fence barriers from Howletts and Port Lympne! They seem easy to install on almost any ground, fraction of the cost of moats or aviaries, and suitable to enclose large areas for various monkeys!
I thought as I'm putting the UK polls on hold for a while I'd summarise all the winners so far. I thought I would discount votes submitted after polls closed for this list. I have also included in brackets all those collections who received more than 20% of the vote but didn't win. Bornean Orangutan: Chester Sumatran Orangutan: Chester (Jersey) Chimpanzee: Edinburgh Gorilla: Jersey (Paignton and Port Lympne) African Elephant: Howletts (Noah's Ark) Asian Elephant: Whipsnade Elephant Safari: Woburn (West Midlands and Longleat) Black Rhino: Chester Indian Rhino: Whipsnade (Chester) White Rhino: Marwell (Whipsnade and Cotswold) Rhino Safari: Woburn (Knowsley and Longleat) Hippo: Longleat (Whipsnade) Pygmy Hippo: Whipsnade (London) European Brown Bear: Wild Place Polar Bear: Highland (YWP) Sun Bear: Chester (Colchester) Spectacled Bear: Chester Jaguar: Chester Leopard: YWP Snow Leopard: Highland Clouded Leopard: Cotswold Cheetah: Hamerton Sea Lion: Colchester/Blackpool Wolf: Highland African Wild Dog: Chester (Whipsnade) Lion: YWP Safari Lion: Woburn (Longleat) Tiger: YWP (Knowsley) Okapi: Wild Place (Chester) Giraffe: Marwell Penguin: Edinburgh (London) Aardvark: Blackpool Bush Dog: Colchester (Chester) Giant Otter: Chester Komodo Dragon: Colchester (London) Wolverine: Highland (Whipsnade and Cotswold) Malyan Tapir: Port Lympne (Chester) Koala: Edinburgh (Longleat) South American Tapir: Newquay Wombat: Hamerton Giant Tortoise: Paignton Red River Hog: Howletts Baboon: YWP (Flamingo Land) Mandrill/Drill: Chester Lynx: Whipsnade (Wild Place) Siamang: Monkey World (Twycross) Red Panda: Dudley Gibbon: Paignton (Monkey World) Binturong: Chester Anteater: YWP Warthog: Chester (Colchester) Colobus: Port Lympne

Thank you @britishzoofan for creating all these polls, they have been very interesting to follow, particularly during lockdown
Thank you for putting this thread together. My top 3 choices are London, Howletts, Longleat, and Belfast.
