What zoo has the best entrance? By entrance, I mean the section before you visit the zoo. For example, here is the entrance for Chester Zoo.
From the pictures I've seen from the Pyongyang Zoo ( North Korea ) I would say that the entrance of that zoo really looks great !
The entrances to British zoos are generally functional rather than decorative; consequently my two favourite zoo entrances are both in Germany. My favourite is the ornate entrance gate to Hamburg (Hagenbeck) Zoo. This impressive strucure is no longer used as the entrance but, fortunately, it has been preserved. I also like the famous Elephant Gate entrance to Berlin Zoo very much too.
From memory of my single visit a long time ago now, that was the most impressive I have seen too. UK zoos just don't have these sort of grandoise entrances. My favourite UK one would probably be Whipsnade, but more because I just like what's inside!
I like to see live animals in the entrance. Such as Africa Alive!'s entrance where you can see the flamingos, crowned cranes, ducks and guinea fowl before you enter the zoo.
In your opinion, what makes a good zoo entrance? For me it is live animals and interesting structures.
Someone posted this topic before: Best Zoo Entry Area However that was several years ago, so there is nothing wrong with starting a new thread on the topic (especially since new zoo entrances have probably been built). Just thought you might want to look through the old thread for ideas.
Warsaw zoo has it good. Most visitors from the city center arrive at the bus stop at the start of a city park 10 minutes from the zoo. There is a big enclosure for brown bears there, serving as an advertisement of the zoo. The gate of the zoo has bars curved like outline of a zebra.
Already mentioned, but I like the Berlin Zoological garden entrance as well. You can even view primates through the neighboring shopping mall window!
