Indeed - this is because Bondo and Luebo are the only two males in her (smaller group). The other four males capable of breeding are in the larger group.

I saw the news in a Facebook Bonobo Group, so I think I’d share it here! Hopefully the baby does well and we can learn who the father is in the future.

I know - I saw it there too ;) Vallee des Singes have a pretty solid track record of their babies’ survival so I don’t doubt it will do well. As far as a father I would hope Bondo is the dad, but it would be nice for Luebo to finally become a father too.

Sad news at the last day of the year, ZIKOMO (*2019 to NAYEMBI) died at Frankfurt Zoo from a severe cold.

The female bonobo baby born from mother Djanoa at Zoo Planckendael at the tail-end of 2019 has been named Unabii ('The prediction') after a public vote.

In the membership book (if it's named this way) I read Nayoki has been moved from Planckendael tot Frankfurt and Naymebi and her daughter Nila went the opposite way.

If I’m correct - I don’t think this move has happened yet, because of the virus. But it is a planned move.

No they won’t - the studbook think they enclosure is too small so for now they’re just leaving it with Kivu as the breeding male.

Hi, does anyone know why bonobos aren't common in the UK and Ireland. Twycross zoo is the only zoo which has them currently.
