Thanks for that pic. It doesn´t show much of the flamingo exhibit, but I like what I see. And birds must like it too, otherwise there would not be 20 flamingo chicks last year (according to ISIS). That they are moved to elephant house for wintering explains why there were none on show in the late autumn last year.

Is it still envisaged that the arriving female(s) will not be for breeding purposes? In other words post reproductive or geriatric (or has this changed ...).

The arrival of the new female will be for breeding purposes, that was the reason for Assam 's arrival too. The last elephant calf was born in 1961 at Budapest, partly due to the lack of the proper breed specimens. The current females, Hella (b ~1967) and Zitta (b ~1969) too old for breeding.

I wrote to ask about the name of Jambi's (Sumatran orangutan) baby (Moira) and the zoo has now also had a baby boy born into the group on 9th December.

What is the plan with the white rhino. ISIS only lists 0.2 for Budapest Zoo. Have both males now been transferred? The younger on - born at the zoo - was supposed to go to S.America (Argentina)?

    Any update would be appreciated!

    Presumably to a different female?

It is very interesting to trace the family tree of Chester's Sumatran Orangutans. I have a particular interest as Emma and Subis' father 'Oscar' was born at Bristol Zoo to the pair 'Henry' & 'Anne' whom I remember very well, so Jambi's baby would be a 4th generation birth to this family.

Yes, Moira was only born in April! The mother of the new baby is Meng (if Google translate is to be believed.)

So Moira has a close companion just like the Chester babies have been in pairs!
