Hi all It's a long shot but I'm after some help regarding the Bush Dog (Speothos venaticus) enclosure in Chester zoo. Does anyone know an approx size of the enclosure at all? If not does anyone know if the interactive zoo map contains realistic sizes of enclosures? I have the approx size of the lion enclosure next door, so I was thinking even if I were to measure against that it would be better than nothing. Really hoping someone can help! Thank you
Area Calculator Using Maps I'm not sure how much of the plot is theirs, but you can get the area from this tool
Haha yes I believe so I think the Bush Dog enclosure is to the right of that enclosure (or below looking at the image you just sent) I do have an approx shape of the enclosure taken from the maps. Struggling a little to use the link you sent
566.04 m² | 0.00 km² | 0.14 acres | 0.06 hectares | 6092.84 feet² | 0.00 square miles | 0.00 square nautical miles Current Perimeter 101.226m OR 332.106feet
I think this shows the enclosure as a little larger than it really is, because is slightly L-shaped. Imagine the top right corner removed and subtract a bit from the area (perhaps to 520 sq metres), of course that shouldn't make any significant difference to the perimeter.
Does anyone have an idea of an approx date Bush dogs were first introduced at Chester? I have a current taxon report so I know the two adult females were bred at the zoo in 2011, but don't have any info that dates further back
I think that the bush dogs arrived in 1992. They used to be kept in the round enclosure by the pademelons.
